Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee 2022 - SRP Plant Trees in February 2023

The Queen’s Green Canopy was an unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee in 2022. This was to invite people from across the UK to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

Everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates were encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October through to March. The Queen’s Green Canopy was to encourage tree planting to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations. The Queen's Green Canopy has encouraged the planting of over a million trees in Her Majesty’s name.

Scottish Roads Partnership (SRP) got involved in this initiative by planting trees on the M8 M74 M73 Motorway Improvement DBFO Project in Scotland.

With the assistance of SRP’s Landscape Contractor, William Houston Landscaping, they supplied and planted 40 Alders within 2 areas of the Project Roads. In February this year, SRP planted 20 No Crimson King Alders adjacent to the footpath/cycleway near to the M74/A725 Raith Junction. An addition 20 No Emerald Queen Alders were also planted on the A725 Shawhead Junction. Both planted areas will create a feature and be most enjoyed by the public.

Graham Drummond, SRP’s Operation Manager commented : 'SRP are glad to be part of this unique initiative to mark the legacy and serve as a lasting tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary service to her country. We hope the general public will enjoy these new features we have created'.
