November 2025 - Assisting St Andrew's Hospice Retail Shop

St Andrew’s Hospice Retail Shop Airdrie Town Centre – Blocked Drain Pipe from Kitchen & Toilet

On Wednesday 12 November 2025, Scottish Roads Partnership’s (SRP) contractor Amey was asked for assistance by St Andrew’s Hospice’s Facilities Manager John Heron. He explained that their retail shop in Airdrie Town Centre, which provides much needed funds for the nearby St Andrew’s Hospice, had a blocked drain in their upstairs kitchen and toilet area. Amey’s Greig Stewart (electrician) and Robert Potter (Highways Operative) were dispatched in a MEWP (mobile elevated platform) and at the rear of the Retail Shop they removed some vegetation that was growing out of the drainage downpipe twelve feet from ground level. This vegetation had been growing wildly and had blocked the drainage system.

SRP provided a specialised vehicle, equipment and expertise free of charge to the facility.

The staff at the St Andrew’s retail shop were very grateful for Amey’s assistance adding that had they not intervened they would have had to close the shop until the issue with the blocked drains had been resolved.

St Andrew’s hospice provides palliative end of life care to many cancer patients in the North and South Lanarkshire areas.

Ends.
