3 April 2025

April 2025 - Winner of gritter Naming Competition from Lawmuir Primary School Bellshill

On Friday 28th February 2025, SRP’s Liaison Officer Martin Cochrane and Highways Operative Iain Currie visited Lawmuir Primary School in Bellshill to give the children at the school an educational input on Winter & Gritting on the Trunk Roads nearby. Prior to this, the teachers and students had visited the Traffic Scotland Gritter tracker website as part of their lessons on winter weather. During the gritter visit the students got to see the large HGV up close with both Martin and Iain, showcasing it’s many features. SRP provided information, with a Q&A session afterwards to P1-P7 pupils (approx 159 in number). Afterwards, the teachers & children agreed to participate, in a ‘Name the Gritter’ competition, for this gritter, that operates on the adjacent A725/M8 and M74 trunk roads.

On  Thursday 03rd April 2025, SRP’s Operations Manager Graham Drummond returned to the school to award Grace aged 10, a £50 toy store voucher for her winning name ‘Monster Ice’.

Ends.
