SRP donate to local gym in Bellshill

Scottish Roads Partnership – Good Neighbour Fund Donation – October 2023

In October 2023, Scottish Roads Partnership (SRP) via their ‘Good Neighbour Fund’ donated £1k to ‘The Fighting Scots Gym’, Mossend, Bellshill. The gym owners, husband & wife Francis & Kerry Gilluley, are fitness trainers with Francis specialising in the martial arts discipline of Karate. The grant given by SRP was used to purchase various sets of boxing gloves and pads, which are essential when members of the club are training on the bags or sparring in the boxing ring at the gym.

The Fighting Scots Gym has been in business for the past 12 years and for a monthly fee, with no tie-ins and 24/7 unlimited access, has excellent equipment for martial arts, including boxing, weight training and various cardio machines for the general fitness of its members. The Gym also supports local charities and has a foundation ‘The Frank Gilluley Foundation’ in memory of Francis’ late father, who was a valued member of the local community.

The Gym owner is hopefully that they will soon receive government funding to replace the disused bowling green, with three separate ‘4G’ type Astro-turf football pitches, two 5-a-side and one larger football park. It is anticipated these new training facilities will be welcomed and utilised regularly by local football teams. Look out for these improved facilities at The Fighting Scots Gym in the coming months.

Scottish Road Partnership’s Operations Manager, Graham Drummond visited the Gym for a coffee and at chat with Michael and his wife in their canteen and was given a tour of the facilities as a show of appreciation for the donation of monies towards the purchase of such important training and safety equipment.

Normally a maximum grant of £500 each is available from the SRP ‘Good Neighbour’ fund. Application forms for the funding can be requested by contacting their admin manager Louise Berkley at or telephone 0800 042 0188.
