Career Event at High School - STEM Subjects

On Wednesday 04th February 2026, five staff from Amey’s M8DBFO Contract based at their Depot in Polmadie, Glasgow attended a Career Fair Event at St Ambrose High School in Coatbridge. These events are hosted in Schools, Colleges & Universities across the country, bringing together pupils and STEM industry experts for a half day of interaction, with information on careers and pathways in to the transport infrastructure industry.

The Amey team set up a stall in the schools’ main hall,  along with several other businesses. During the event they spoke to approximately 150 students from the schools S2 classes. The Amey Staff used their social impact day, to attend the event, giving back to the local community adjacent to their trunk road network (M8, M73, A8 & A725) including Principal Construction Manager John Murphy; Business Support Manager Louise Dick; Network Co-ordinator Derek Kelly; Trainer/ Assessor Mark Lister and Highways Supervisor Gary McCool shared their knowledge, giving advice & guidance to the pupils, whilst also providing career information involving Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

The Amey Staff highlighted the required high school qualifications that would provide a pathway into Civil Engineering and other careers within Amey’s organisation and provided literature and QR codes linking to Amey’s website and ‘Early Careers programmes for would be graduates; apprentices and placement students.

Amey branded goods were provided to engaging students at the event (notepad & pen, pencils and sweets).

The event was organised and hosted by Principal Teacher Megan Donnelly, to inspire the next generation about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) through cost effective collaboration between industry and education.
