SOCIAL VALUE – CAREERS FAIR AT NEW COLLEGE LANARKSHIRE COATBRIDGE WITH LOCAL PRIMARY 7 SCHOOL CHILDREN

On Tuesday 23rd May 2023 – in collaboration with SmartSTEMs, a Glasgow based charity, promoting Science, Technology, Engineering & Math's in school across the west of Scotland, Amey Public Services (APS) Ms Aishwarya Rajanna (engineer & commercial assistant), Scottish Road Partnership’s (SRP) Martin Cochrane (Liaison Officer) & Andrew Johnston (Graduate Engineer), all based at Amey’s Bargeddie Office, Glasgow, used their Social Impact Day at a Careers Fair at New College Lanarkshire, Coatbridge.

The Amey staff engaged with 187 North Lanarkshire Primary School students (year P7) throughout the day, talking about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math's (STEM). The students were shown BIM (Building Information Modelling) used locally to assist building the A725 Raith Underpass (at M74 Junction 5). This is a three-dimensional computer modelling tool used by engineers around the world to improve overall project outcomes prior to construction. The students also had the opportunity to speak to the Amey Engineers about their career paths, look at a variety of further education courses available in the Amey workplace and given advice on subjects to consider studying at high school for a future career in civil engineering.
