M74 southbound carriageway between Junction 5 Raith and Junction 6 Hamilton/Motherwell - Two Overnight Closures
Two Overnight closures of M74 southbound carriageway between Junction 5 Raith and Junction 6 Hamilton/Motherwell
Road users are advised that the M74 southbound carriageway between Junction 5 Raith and Junction 6 Hamilton & Motherwell, will be closed overnight for two consecutive nights, commencing Tuesday 17 June 2025, for essential white lining works. The closures have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety.
The closures will take place overnight from 8pm to 6am the following day, as follows:
- Tuesday 17 June & Wednesday 18 June 2025 (2 nights)
As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:
- M74 southbound Junction 5 Raith on slip road from Raith roundabout (A725)
- M74 southbound Junction 6 off slip road for Motherwell (A723)
- M74 southbound Junction 6 off slip road for Hamilton (A723)
A signed diversion will be in place via the M74 southbound Junction 5 Raith off slip road to Raith roundabout, take 5th exit for A7071 Bellshill Road towards Bothwell, B7071 Bothwell Road to Hamilton, A72 Muir Street & Palace Grounds Road, A723 Motherwell Road to rejoin M74 southbound at Junction 6 Hamilton on slip road or continue A723 for Motherwell.
The diversion route will add an estimated 1.5 miles and 5 minutes to affected journeys.
Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland prior to travelling at these times to check their route.
Access through the works will be maintained for Emergency Service vehicles. Please be aware of Mobile Elevated Platform vehicles (MEWP) and white lining crews in the closure.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Roads Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, North & South Lanarkshire Councils, Amey South West Unit and Police Scotland.
Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
