M74 Northbound J5 Raith On Slip Road & Freeflow

M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith On Slip Road, including adjacent A7071 Freeflow On Slip Road from Bothwell - Full Weekend Closure for road resurfacing works.
Road users are advised that the M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith on slip road from Raith roundabout and the adjacent A7071 freeflow on slip road from Bothwell, will be closed over a full weekend, commencing at 8pm on Friday 10th October 2025, for essential road surfacing works.
M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith On slip road & adjacent A7071 Freeflow On slip road from Bothwell to M74 northbound – full weekend closure
The M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith on slip road from Raith roundabout and the adjacent A7071 freeflow on slip road from Bothwell to the M74 northbound carriageway will be closed over a full weekend from the following times and dates:
- 8pm on Friday 10 October until 6am Monday 13 October 2025
A signed diversion routes will be in place via 1st exit on Raith roundabout for
A725 northbound towards Coatbridge, A8 westbound Shawhead Junction on slip road for A8 Bargeddie roundabout (A89) & Glasgow, take 1st exit at Bargeddie roundabout for A8 westbound Coatbridge Road, take M8 westbound Junction 8 Baillieston on slip road for M8 & Glasgow or for M73 (M74) continue A8 to Coatbridge Road & Swinton roundabout, take 1st exit for A8 (M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Baillieston roundabout and follow permanent signage for M73 (M74) & Glasgow Airport.
Local diversion signs will also be in place.
The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential carriageway resurface works are undertaken and have been scheduled over a full weekend during summer school holidays to minimise disruption to traffic as much as possible. The road will reopen at 6am on Monday morning.
The diversion route will add an estimated 2.5 miles and 5 minutes to affected journeys on the M74 northbound between Junction 5 Raith and Junction 4 Maryville Interchange.
There will be no access for emergency vehicles during these closures due to the depth of excavations required for the road surfacing works.
Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland’s website prior to travelling to check their route.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, North & South Lanarkshire Council, Amey South West Unit and the emergency services.
Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
