M74 NB J5 Raith On Slip & Freeflow from Bothwell

Full Weekend closure of M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith On slip road, including adjacent A7071 freeflow on slip road from Bothwell - 8pm Friday 01 August until 6am Monday 04 August 2025.

Road users are advised that the M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith on slip road from Raith roundabout and the adjacent A7071 freeflow on slip road from Bothwell, will be closed over a full weekend, commencing at 8pm on Friday 01st August 2025, for essential road surfacing works.

M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith On slip road & adjacent A7071 Freeflow On slip road from Bothwell to M74 northbound – full weekend closure

The M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith on slip road from Raith roundabout and the adjacent A7071 freeflow on slip road from Bothwell to the M74 northbound carriageway will be closed over a full weekend from the following times and dates:

  • 8pm on Friday 01 August until 6am Monday 04 August 2025

A signed diversion routes will be in place via 3rd exit on Raith roundabout, M74 southbound Junction 5 Raith on slip road, continue M74 southbound to Junction 7 Larkhall off slip road, A72 Lanark Road (West), return to M74 northbound at Junction 7 Larkhall on slip road and continue M74 northbound.

Please note North Lanarkshire Council have major bridge works involving lane closures on the A723 with the connecting M74 southbound Junction 6 Motherwell off slip road also closed.    

Local diversion signs will also be in place.

The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential carriageway resurface works are undertaken and have been scheduled over a full weekend during summer school holidays to minimise disruption to traffic as much as possible. The road will reopen at 6am on Monday morning.

The diversion route will add an estimated 9.5 miles and 9 minutes to affected journeys on the M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith on slip road. 

There will be no access for emergency vehicles during these closures due to the depth of excavations required for the road surfacing works.

Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland’s website prior to travelling to check their route.

The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, South Lanarkshire Council, Amey South West Unit and the emergency services.

Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
