NEWS RELEASE For immediate release
ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE ON M74 JUNCTION 6 TO JUNCTION 5 COMMENCES 3rd AUGUST
Essential maintenance will take place on the northbound M74 Junction 6 to Junction 5 from Monday 3rd August until Saturday 15th August 2020. Works will take place between 8pm and 6am each night. The road will re-open as normal out with these times. There will be no weekend working.
This work will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership (SRP) on behalf of Transport Scotland and will be delivered by our maintenance company Amey. We fully recognise the importance of a safe and reliable trunk road network, particularly during the Covid-19 outbreak, and it is vital that essential maintenance works are carried out in order to maintain the integrity and safety of these routes.
This scheme requires full overnight closures of the M74 northbound while this work is taking place, with a signed diversion route in operation.
Northbound traffic on the M74 will exit at the Junction 6 off slip road to the A72 and proceed to the B7071 Bothwell Road. From here traffic will join the A7071 and return to northbound M74 via the Junction 5 on slip road. Traffic on the northbound Junction 6 on slip roads will join the southbound M74 and turn at junction 7, and traffic joining the M74 northbound at Junction 7 will be directed to follow the same diversion.
Traffic leaving Hamilton Services will be diverted via the rear exit onto the A72 and follow the diversion above.
This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Hamilton Services, the South-West Operating Company and South Lanarkshire Council.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
Scottish Roads Partnership and their contractor Amey can confirm that these works fall under the essential work guidance set out by the office of the Scottish roadworks commissionaires office during the Covid-19 crisis.
